Oranje crash out as the Russian Army Marches To The Semis

Well well well...

its 2 45 am ... an Oranje fan and i am crushed... Russia 3 Netherlands 1...(Pavlyuchenko,Torbinski,Arshavin)...(Nistelrooy for the Dutch) Arshavin a hero providing the fast break throughs with Pavlyuchenko with some superb efforts and causing trouble for the Dutch defenders(oojier, heitinga what went wrong??).... my my the Oranje looked like a shadow of the team which trounced its opponents in Group C and boy did Gus Huiddink prove to be "the traitor(as in UEFA) of the year" as he led Russia through to the semis....

well the Netherlands now go home with a crushed Marco Van Basten and his team of superstars... out and defeated... fair and square by some brilliant work by the Russian players... Kudos to all the 11 who gave the Oranje a shocker and lets see if more upsets occur in the matches to come

Turks deliver the hammer blow for the Croatians

Well i saw this match from the second half and when extra time came about i almost slept off...
However what i witnessed was perhaps one of the biggest upsets in football this year(even in Euro 08).. with Klasnics goal in the dying minutes of ET..the win looked inevitable till the Turks came back through a Semih Şentürk(deflected but a goal nonetheless....) Penalties and the Turks scored on penalties 3-1 with misses from Modric(how...),Rakitic and a save off striker Petric...

I guess the Turkish goalkeeper Rüştü was the man of the moment for his superb effort during the shootout as well as the brilliant saves during the match(denying Srns a curling free kick and then blocking Olic's effort)... The Croatians were left with tears only to comfort them.. and coach Bilic will be haunted by the night's upset for years(felt sad for him .... one minute ecstasy after the goal then absolute shock and helplessness after the Turkish bomb at the death) but kudos to the Croatians for having made it this far but fate had other ideas denying them a maiden semi final appearance at Euro 08(sad to see them go... but someone had to)

The Turks now face the Germans coming off a 3-2 victory over Portugal(inspite of Gomes and Postiga goals... Postiga in the 90th minute).... Schweinsteiger Ballack and Klose will be the ones to watch as for the Turks you got to watch out for every single one cause they are just so unpredictable...

More on an absolutely fabulous Euro 08 as the tournament progresses

Euro 08 update

Results from 8th June 2008

Germany-Poland(2-0) Podolski
Austria-Croatia(0-1) Modrić(pen)
Note that Croatia's goal in the 4th minute through a penalty is the fastest penalty ever to be converted in the history of the competition(nice going..... and what was that defender thinking...)
Modric(left)

Podolski's(below) brace well didnt make him celebrate that much considering that Poland is his land of birth.. but he is still a top class striker to watch out for in Euro 08

CLUB or COUNTRY???? Which come first...

kk's initial article abt euro 08 ; as a match viewer watching 180 minutes of football can make anyones head spin... forgive the grammar folks.... he is just a guy who loves the game and wants to tell you all about it(by the way the mad hatter is responsible for editing and co-authoring..)

EURO2008 is getting bigger and bigger day by day...But there is a big question out there????
Players play better in their respective clubs (because of the money they receive and they coordinate better because they live like a team for 4 years or shorter before another world cup starts)
I feel that players playing for the national team dont really gel well as compared to their club mates. But hey in Euro 08 these are not excuse to not perform and i can't wait to c what the coaches have done to boost their team

Euro Update

Results For The Inaugural Matches as of 7th June 08
