GENRE: action, thriller

TEAM: aamir khan is paired against south superstar asin who makes her bollywood debut, a. murugadoss who directed the tamil version has also done the direction for the hindi version.

it has AR RAHMAN's music which is making waves everywhere, jiah khan is in a cameo.pradeep rawat plays a very important role.

THE PLOT: its a story of a man who suffers from short term memory loss due to a head injury. he cannot remeber anything for more than 15 minutes and has to rely on photographs, notes and tattoos on his body to do his day to day acivities. and the only aim of his life is to find the man (ghajini)who is responsible for this injury and also for the murder of his wife. aamir(sanjay singhania) plays the lead while asin(kalpana) plays the role of the ever so bubbly girl next door, who is his love interest. jiah khan plays the role of the medical student(sunita) who takes extra interest in the case and tries to help our hero.

so the movie is basically about sanjay's quest for ghajini,and the only clue he has is that name.

THE VERDICT: first things first, those of you who have seen memento, and go into the theatres expecting something similar, will come out disappointed. yes, the tattoos are same, the camera and the photos are same. the basic plot of the movie, that its a search for the villain is also the same, but there are slight deviations in the storyline which many of us might not like. memento was a brave script which might not have impressed the indian sensibilities while ghajini is a story which is written specifically for us, and no doubt it is doing well, since we all love to see the bad guy get a beating at the hands of the good guy towards the end. 

coming to the performances, aamir is as always the perfectionist, the look is already very popluar, but his look in the movie before getting injured is also very impressive where he plays a business tycoon who falls in love witha girl next door. but the best part about his acting here is the facial expressions which he delivers when he suddenly forgets everything or when slowly everything comes back to him. his is a perfect example of a great performance with minimum dialogues and optimun expressions.

ASIN i think is a star in the making, a great performance from aamir was expected but asin truly stands out for me as a revealation. she fits into the character very well and her chemistry with aamir is too good. the romance which the two of them have portrayed in the movie is very sweet and touches your heart very deeply.

JIAH KHAN has very less to do and she does well enough.

the action as well as the music have a south indian touch to it, in fact from whatever i have seen of the tamil ghajini, i dont think the screenplay has been changed at all. but who minds unless its as good a movie as it is. 

all in all a nice movie to go for this festive season, watch it atleast once, more if you are an aamir khan fan.

it gets a 3.5/5 and a thumbs up.

DOSTANA

GENRE:Drama

THE TEAM:Karan Johar(Dharma Productions) returns after a long with much anticipated flick.Cast includes dashing Priyanka Chopra as Neha Milwani and the cute gay couple SAM and KUNAL(Abhishek and John).Kiron Kher as MAA(abhishek's mother),Boman Irani as "M" and Bobby'chamku' Deol as Abhimanyu Singh.
Shilpa shetty is just there for a hot item number at the beggining of the movie.
The catchy music is scored by Vishal-Shekhar.

THE PLOT:It is indeed a much hyped gay drama between two straight guys.Kunal(John) is a fashion photographer and Sameer is a NURSE...yup abhishek plays a nurse(and no he doesn't wear those short skirts).both of them are searching for an apartment and fate brings them at the same place, but there is a small problem its only available for 'baby log' and not for 'baba log' as it has 1 more room where a baby lives alone...so they fake as being a gay couple to get the rooms.

but wait...as it turns out the "baby"(Neha) is superhot niece of an awefully bad looking fat aunt ,so now they are stuck with a smart,single and sexy editor of a fashion megzine,but no use ....they are gay..

They become friends and their friendship blossoms as Neha is very comfortable hanging out late nights with two hot gay guys.

Now the two guys go to file a residential petition as gay couple to make the process fast and abhishek's approval gets sent to London where lives his punjabi dramaqueen mom...and when she gets the shocking latter she decides to go see her 'LADLA' at miami.

Incidently both the guys gain love interst in Neha who is in love with the editor fo chief Abhimanyu(Bobby),so now they try to get rid of him.so now its a quadilateral between two gay guys ,a hot chick and Bobby...while Abhishek's mother think that his son is in love with a guy.

what happens next the full of funny incidences and some really good timed humour.some really good written stuff and good screenplay...with a climax where u'll see a kiss of its kind for bollywood.

Priyanka is looking hot,John dashing and Abhishek's gay acting is a must to see.Music goes ok with the movie.

THE RATING:3.5/5 nice entertainer,good humour,some very nice performances and, good direction though its not the best that we have seen this year. Go watch it with your bunch and u'll surely have a good time.

GOLMAAL RETURNS

THE PLOT:

the movie revolves around the married couple GOPAL(ajay devgan) and EKTA(kareena),while gopal is a hardworking professional in a fisheries firm in goa,his wife ekta is a homemaker addicted to the never ending daily soaps. this addiction leads her to repeatedly allege her husband of infidelity..her mute brother is played by tushar kapoor,and shreyas talpade plays the role of a new recruit in gopal's firm who gets our hero out of trouble every time and arshad warsi is the foolish cop who is always looking for a chance to put gopal behind bars...there are many bits and pieces roles by other stars which are of very little relevence to the movie....

THE VERDICT:

unlimited fun is what thhey call it...well,i say stupidity.....

the movie does make you laugh at some points of time, but really the whole film is about pulling the leg of someone or the other in the whole entetainment industry...right from ekta kapoors serials,to saif's tatoo,references to other movies like om shanti om and saawariya,making fun of rani mukherjee repeatedly in multiple scenes,it is a bit too much,if you do it in a limit then the audience may like it,like in OSO for instance

the jokes about the deaf and dumb and the cross dressing doesnt necessarily make you laugh always..

the movie has done well economically in the festive season because of the grand opening it recieved due to the success of the last film..

performance wise too,only tushar kapoor and shreyas talpade impress in parts,maybe tushar kapoor should do only mute roles,that might help his career a bit,for ajay devgan there is very less to do,and kareena plays the part of the typical bahu from the daily soaps,well,she is bad at it

arshad warsi gets too loud in a few scenes and is laughing without reason in the whole film

the movie is good if you just want to chill out with freinds in a cheap theatre and like to shout out comments throughout the movie

The Plot:

Well guys its Madhur Bhandarkar's most expensive movie till date, and trust me he hasnt wasted the money put in. He comes up with a gr8 insight of the fashion world and what lies behind all the flashy and glamorous portrayal of it.

The story revolves around Meghna Mathur who is a wannabe supermodel and has left her family behind to pursue her dreams. Her fate takes her to all corners of the fashion world where she meets Abhijit Sharin, owner of a well known advertising agency "PANACHE" whose current
recruit is Shonali Gujral. Shonali is a drug addict and has serious attitude problems with her working team. This goes against her and Abhijit cancels her contract and gives a new contract to Meghna.

Meanwhile a wardrobe malfunction leaves Shonali distressed and she goes on drug overdose
and has to be put on rehab. On the other hand, Meghna starts treading the same path as Shonali
and starts drinking , smoking and the success gets to her and her image gets tarnished due to this. Finally shes left all alone with no one to care for her. Frustrated she decides to go back home.

How she comes back and finds her way to glory and what happens to Shonali is up to u to watch.

The film is filled with power packed performances, especially Kangna she sets the ramp on fire.

Rating: 4/5. I personally loved the movie , but not everyone may like it as much as I did.
So go watch it, its definitely better than the other releases out here.

KIDNAP

THE PLOT: Vikrant( sanjay dutt) is a head-strong businessman, who likes to get what he wants and live life his own way. Sonia( minisha) is his daughter who is equally obnoxious, and doesn’t like to be told what to do. Kabir( imran) is a young man, intelligent, intense and alone, he has just one thing on his mind-revenge, and he is ready to cross all limits for that revenge against vikrant.

So he kidnaps vikrants daughter sonia, in turn vikrant has to play a game with various dangerous task, each of which requires breaking the law in some form or the other.

Vikrant doesn’t like taking orders from a stranger, a criminal, but he has no option other than that if he wants to save his daughter’s life.

the concept is intersting and the festive season should ensure a good opening inspite of tough competition from DRONA. watch it for the rivalry between the new-look imran khan and the hard-hitting sanjay dutt

THE PLOT:

The warrior that protects this secret and thus, the society is called DRONA.

Aditya( abhushek) is the DRONA of this generation, it is his responsibility to protect the secret from RIZ( Kaykay) who wants to know the secret and spread his evil intentions in the world. DRONA gets help and support from SONIA(Priyanka). Jaya bachchan plays his mother.

Essentially, this is a story of good versus evil , set in a mystic background with mythic characters and fantastic magic.

 

Releasing on the double occasion of Eid and Gandhi Jayanti, it promises a good opening atleast, the rest depends on the performances and the script. 

'UGLY' aur 'PAGLI'

THE TEAM:

Pritish Nandy comes back as producer with another movie starring Mallika Sherawat. This time he has cast the ever improving Ranveer Shourrie opposite her...Sachin Khot is the director,Anil pandey is the writer.....the music is by Anu Malik and is already a hit in Discos and parties.....

THE PLOT:

Ranveer(KABIR) plays the role of a loser who has been studying engineering for many years now and has very less hopes of passing out,he is desperate for a girlfriend,tracks girls' signals like an anttena,and is always in company of frustrated friends like himself...in short he is 'UGLY'.....his life is like a monotous time-piece until one day he meets KUHU(mallika),from the moment he sees her,his life is turned upside down,she is an obnoxious,moody,bossy girl who is a FEmale chauvinist to say the least...she drinks like a tanker,and then pukes like a fire extinguisher........she makes the life of KABIR a living hell from the moment she meets him,slapping him is a pass time activity for her......in short...she is 'PAGLI'.....

how UGLY and PAGLI react to each other and their problems is for you to check out this weekend..........

THE VERDICT:

coming from the same stable as "PYAAR KE SIDE EFFECTS",this movie fails to live upto the expectations it has created.....

mallika sherawat proves once again that she can act,and pretty well at that,ranveer shourrie impresses once again with his timing,and you almost pity his character in a few scenes.....

the story though,seems almost like a liability,and you wonder sometimes,was the title meant for the script or the characters,inspiration from MY SASSY GIRL is apparent,and it lacks originality in approach....

a few of the songs are good,but thoroughly misplaced in the movie,they could have been used in better places or not used at all.....

all in all,its a bumpy ride,but not a boring one,you could go watch it if your not doing anything better this weekend,but beware,dont take your girlfriend along,you might just spoil her.......

and yes,before i finish the review,got to mention the slaps,the 99 slaps are hilarious at best,and the one kiss,well,is exotic to say the least........

it gets a 2.5/5,and a green signal for a leisurely viewing..........

KISMAT KONNECTION

Shahid kapur and Vidya balan paired against each other for the first time.director aziz mirza comes back after a bit of a break after his last movie chalte chalte....its a tips film...juhi chawla and om puri in cameos....vishal plays an important role as well

THE PLOT:
a young and talented architect RAJ(shahid) struggling for work,not because he is not good enough,but because he is not lucky enough.he tries his best to do well,get good work and be as succesful in his professional life as he was in his college life.....but luck is against our hero for some reason.......then he meets PRIYA(vidya),the girl who changes his fortunes,everything that RAJ does,with a mere presence of PRIYA,turns into a success for him...he soon realises that the key to his fortunes lies with the simple toronto girl with high values,ambitions and yes.......a boyfreind...
its upto him now to keep her by his own side everytime he works on a project to make it a success.......and its upto you to find out what happens to his endeavours by watching the movie.......

THE VERDICT: SILLY....is the word that comes to the mind as you leave the theatres after watching this movie...the story is a total rip off from the hollywood flick GET LUCKY..the script is too weak and fails two talented actors who have impressed one and all with power packed performances in the past........the comedy too is a bit cliched...the jokes bore you and so does the chemistry between the lead pair...the only respite is perhaps the performance by VISHAAL,who has done a good job of playing shahid kapur's sidekick...he even makes you laugh in some of the scenes
maybe aziz mirza should stick to directing SRK,because at some places in the movie it seems as if shahid is trying to copy SRK...
the movie is predictable right through and you can almost predict the climax 2 scenes before it has actually begun.....
JUHI CHAWLA's character is stupid at best,and better left uncommented
vidya balan's clothes are,to say the least,pathetic,film-makers have to realise the fact that in the times of the ZERO-FIGURE,this is one heroine that needs to be portrayed as a woman rather than a girl,even her chemistry with shahid tellls you that......
shahid kapur,tries his best,but fails...his role is ill-written and doesnt do full justice to his talent...maybe he needs to be a bit selective now after doing JAB WE MET...
all in all,an ill-made film,only the critics should see it,that too because its their profession.......

it gets a 1/5 and a thumbs down.....(watch it just for the air-conditioning of the theatres)

HANCOCK
THE TEAM:its a COLUMBIA PICTURES' release,with WILL SMITH playing the lead.the director is PETER BARG.Jason Bateman and Charlize theron playimportant parts....

THE PLOT:john HANCOCK(will smith) is a gifted person,he is a superhero,he has great powers.with great power comes greater responsibilty,yes spiderman and superman have realised this responsibilty to the fullest,but hancock is different,he has got attitude problems and cannot stop himself from inflicting damage on public property while saving the public..due to his powers,he is an asset to the police,but the people of LA feel they have had enough of this super-hero and they are better off without him....

in comes RAY(bateman),a PR specialist whose job is to straighten out hancock,and make him likeable to the people,but the problem is.......hancock doesnt give a damn what the people think about him,there is also a romantic angle to the story as hancock finds romantic feelings for RAY's wife MARY(charlize theron),RAY finds himself in a strange situation with a fear of losing his wife to the twisted superhero..

well,the movie has great special effects,and will smiths performance is much awaited by his fans all around the world,especially after his last two movies,I AM LEGEND and PURSUIT OF HAPPINESS,received great response at the box-office....the movie releases next friday in india and this wednesday in the US with great expectations.....

LOVE STORY 2050
THE TEAM:Harry Baweja(of QAYAMAT fame) launches his son HARMAN with a sci-fi thriller this week.harry himself is the director and writer of the movie,Priyanka Chopra is the leading lady.the movie has Anu malik's music and Javed akhtar's lyrics...Boman irani and raveena tandon are also in important roles.

THE PLOT:KARAN(harman) is a young spirited boy who falls in love with SANA(priyanka) a young,pretty and shy girl.karans uncle(boman irani)is a scientist who makes a time machine after years of hardwork and pateince.sana shows a desire to travel in time through the time machine,so they go to mumbai in the year 2050..as they see,mumbai city has changed completely in 2050,with flying cars,200 storey bulidings and sky rails and robots..karan and sana get seperated in the course of events and are greatly supported by QT(a female robot) and BOO(a robot teddy)to come together,but soon they find themselves in the threat of Dr. HOSHI,a demi-god of the future world.......
wether karan finds his love and comes back to the present is a question that will be answered only when you go watch the movie....

a lot of potential in the concept,lets hope the self proclaimed first sci-fi thriller love story of bollywood comes good this friday....

JAANE TU.........YA JAANE NA

THE TEAM:Aamir khan productions comes out with its 3rd movie.writer Abbas tyrewalla turns director with this film.It is also the debut film for aamir's nephew Imran khan.genelia d'souza(from MERE BAAP PEHLE AAP) is cast opposite imran in the film.the music is from the maestro himself:A.R. REHMAN.small cameos from naseruddin shah and ratna pathak shah are also excpected with a few guest appearences from a few stars in the movie.
THE PLOT:JAI(imran) and ADITI(genelia) are together since they were kids,they are the closest to each other but opposites in every sense of the wordJAI is a peace loving,non violent and silent college boy who likes to keep out of trouble and hang-out with his freinds,ADITI on the other hand is a bubbly and loud girl who wants to do everything in life,and often gets in troubleshe gets invloved in fights very easily and it rests on JAI to cool her down,she very possesive with respect to JAI as well,any one messing up with JAI has to face ADITI's grudges as well,and sometimes her abuses also.their freinds understand and repect this relationship very well,they know that aditi and jai are made for each other,even their parents know it,and they believe its only time before they get married to each other.but the question is do they themselves know it,when do two people realize the true depth of their relationship?

SO WHEN DO YOU KNOW ITS LOVE???

well,that is the question this movie tries to answer,promises a lot of potential,especially after so much publicity and hype created by aamir khan over this movie.go watch it this friday.......

this time though they are accompanied by Amisha Patel and four kids-baby Shriya Sharma,Ayushi burman,Rachit Sidana and Akshat Chopra...
the movie is co-prouced by Kunal Kohli and Aditya Chopra under the banner of Yashraj Films.


THE PLOT:
Saif Ali Khan(RANBEER TALWAR) plays a busines tycoon who has no family, he has everything anyone can ask for in life,he has all the succes except for anyone to share it with..,he is A MAN WHO ALWAYS LOST LOVE
In a lanamrk court verdict,the court orders him to take care of four orphans..
the children have lost their parents and they dont want to live with RANBEER, infact the problem is that they hate him and want revenge.......
ranbeer on the other hand also hates this uncomfortable situation and doesnt want to live with the children.
the children feel helpless and pray god for help,and he does oblige them, he sends them his angel(geeta) to help their lives(through magic!!!!) and improve their relationship with Ranbeer..
the twist in the tale starts when the angel starts falling in love herself when she is not supposed to do so...
how the story unfolds and what part does the sleazy Amisha play between all this love and magic still remains to be seen and we shall find out once the movie hits cinemas this friday



VIA DARJEELING....

GENRE:suspense,drama

THE TEAM:
KAY KAY menon,rajat kapoor,vinay pathak,sonali kulkarni and sanhya mridul are in lead roles..
the flick is produced by joy ganguly and directed by arindam nandy..

THE PLOT:
the story is about a couple (ankur and rimli) on their honeymoon in darjeeling,everything is fine until the day before they are supposed to return to calcutta,ankur disappears.....
the police inspector(robin bose) does the investigation,the only clue is a taxi driver with whom ankur had a fight and a mysterious looking man described by rimli as to following them everywhere they went in darjeeling..
this story is narrated by the inspector 2 years later with his freinds while gossiping on a rainy day in calcutta, the freinds feel intrigued by the story and ask robin about the outcome of the case,the inspector has no answers as ankur has not been found even till date.
they start gossiping about the case and bring up their own versions of ankur's whereabouts,the most intereting part is how robin's freinds themselves get involved in the case and discuss the possibilities.....with the viewer also forming his own version..
it is an interesting concept with lots of potential,bollywood has not seen a decent suspense film for quite some time now,this could well be the dose of suspense the audience want this season......

Sarkar Raj

Severus here makes his first review of Sarkar Raj, whom unlike his namesake decides to go easy for a change rather than being cruel and merciless... Well here are his thoughts about the movie

The team:

Yes…….for the first time ever the three bachchans are together in a movie, and what’s more, they are producing it as well, its an AB CORP. production, with the director being Ram Gopal Verma of AAG fame(or defame rather).he directed the prequel SARKAR as well.

The genre:

Crime, drama

The plot:

As shown at the end of the last film, SHANKAR (abhishek) has taken over the proceedings of the family business and SARKAR (amitabh) has gone into semi-retirement. ANITA (aishwarya) is a top executive of a foreign firm, she comes to India with a view of developing a power plant in the rural areas of maharashtra.she proposes the plan to shankar who immediately gauges the potential it has for the people and agrees to it, after convincing SARKAR for the plan, Anita and shankar travel through the villages of maharashtra, talking to people, trying to convince them and gaining their support.

Things are not as easy as they seem and the enemies of sarkar see an opportunity in this to finish his reign. To see how the story unfolds, wait for the movie

As the director RGV points out, sarkar was a very simple story where a son takes revenge for his father, while this is a very complex story, it’s a story about power, and as the sarkar says very rightly: power cannot be given, it has to b taken

The build up:

The publicity for the movie has been tremendous. Big B’s blog, as well as RGV’s blog, both have posts and comments about the movie. Infact, there was a rally organized by the bachchans solely for the publicity of the film. Also there was a press conference, which abhi-ash joined in through video conferencing from Miami.

It seems a lot is at stake for Big B after the Bhootnath debacle. And who can forget RGV”s last film (AAG), which went into flames the day it was screened.

RUMOUR HAS IT:

• The story is inspired from a real life situation, the director is very quick to deny this and very conveniently points out that this is a story of power, which anybody can RELATE to
• K SERA SERA productions who produced the last film, had denied RGV the use of the name SARKAR 2,as it has been copyrighted, and so the movie is called SARKAR RAJ
• After AAG RGV went bankrupt so much so that he could not even pay his driver. Production house K SERA SERA also dumped(left would be kinder..) him in time of need. He received support from the bachchans and this is why the success of the film is very important.

After the IPL saga,SARKAR RAJ, with an all-star cast promises to be the most awaited movie this summer………..go watch it.
